Closing the Information Gap.

No person in an emergency should ever become unidentified, voiceless, or their loved ones unknown

The Origin Story

A friend went down in the woods.
Nobody knew anything.

On October 13, 2024, a group of friends were riding trails deep in the woods when one of them lost control and struck a tree. The riders present tried to help but ended up calling EMS. EMS responded rapidly, navigating the rough terrain. But when they arrived on scene, the real crisis began.

The rider was unconscious. Paramedics asked the surrounding friends for basic information: Did he have any pre-existing medical conditions? Was he on daily medications? Did he have drug allergies? Who was his emergency contact? Nobody knew. They began texting and calling other friends, feverishly trying to get this critical information. No one had it.

His friends knew his wife's name—but none of them had her phone number. He passed away that day in the woods, leaving behind a group of friends devastated not just by the loss, but by a chilling realization of helplessness.

That helplessness became the driving force behind Scan If Hurt™. Built by Daniel White—a rider, engineer, and one of the friends of the rider that day —who resolved that no one should ever be left unable to communicate their medical identity in a crisis.

Founded by Marine Corps Veteran Daniel White, Scan If Hurt™ combines firsthand emergency preparedness experience with innovative technology to solve what we call "The Information Gap™.

The Day the Gap Cost a Life

EMS arrived, but the "Information Blind Window" was complete. Without a name, medical background, or emergency numbers, critical treatment choices were delayed.

Scan If Hurt™ was created to ensure this story never repeats.
Our Vision

Safety is Always Scannable

We envision a world where Safety IDs are standard gear for everyone who steps out of their home. Whether you are an elderly parent walking in the neighborhood, a child riding an e-bike to school, a motorcyclist on the highway, or an outdoor adventurer in the backcountry—carrying a scannable profile should be as secondary nature as wearing a helmet or buckling a seatbelt.

By utilizing ubiquitous, battery-free QR technology, we remove the technical friction. No smartwatches to charge, no bluetooth to sync, and no apps to install. Just high-visibility, instantly scannable protection that works anywhere, anytime.

Core Principles

  • 1
    Zero App Friction

First responders and helpers must be able to read profiles using standard and universal phone tools.

  • 2
    Privacy By Design

You retain complete control of what fields are displayed. Turn off sensitive fields or update them instantly.

  • 3
    Proactive Alerts

If the scanner chooses to share location, the emergency contacts receive a GPS location.
