Add one more item to the youth e-bike checklist

Daily Voice reported that a 13-year-old e-bike rider was hospitalized after a collision in East Meadow, New York.

As e-bikes become more common among younger riders, families are being asked to think about a wider set of safety questions. A helmet matters. Understanding traffic rules matters. Visibility, route choice and the type of vehicle matter.

There is also a small information-preparedness question parents can answer before the ride: if something happens away from home, what emergency contact information goes with the child?

Scan If Hurt™ gives families a way to connect chosen emergency information to a scannable Safety ID.

That does not replace supervision, traffic rules, protective equipment, 911 or medical care. And the Daily Voice report does not establish that the teen in this case lacked contact information.

It is simply one more item worth considering before a young rider heads out the door.
