Prevention and information preparedness are different jobs
FOX8 reported that an e-bike rider suffered life-threatening injuries after a collision at Silas Creek Parkway and Hawthorne Road in Winston-Salem.
According to police information cited by FOX8, the e-bike and the car both entered the intersection with steady red lights, and the e-cyclist was not wearing a helmet.
Those facts belong in the prevention conversation: traffic laws, helmets, visibility and safe riding behavior can reduce risk and injury severity.
But when a severe injury has already happened, another problem can arise if the person cannot communicate. Responders may need emergency contacts or other context the individual chose in advance.
Scan If Hurt™ provides a scannable Safety ID connected to that chosen information. It is not a helmet, medical device or emergency service.
The useful distinction is not complicated: do everything possible to prevent the incident, and also decide what information should be available if prevention fails.
